Classroom Treats Policy Change


Due to the growing number of allergies and health concerns experienced by our students, FHSD is making changes to Student Wellness Regulation 2750, which addresses food brought in for early childhood and elementary classroom parties and birthday celebrations. Starting with the 2019-20 school year, outside treats will no longer be allowed to be brought to school for class sharing. This change will help maintain the safety of all students with life-threatening food allergies or other dietary restrictions. Parents will still be able to bring in non-food items, such as stickers, pencils, etc., for birthday celebrations. 

Parents that would like to provide edible classroom treats for their child’s birthday or for a holiday party will be able to order them online from Sodexo, our food service provider. Treats from Sodexo are allergy safe, comply with federal Smart Snacks Guidelines, and are served with napkins or utensils as needed. Orders should be placed at least one week in advance.
