I want to welcome you to Henderson Elementary, home of the eagles! We are glad that you have selected our school for your child’s education. Our school mission statement: “Love. Teach. Inspire. Every Kid. Every Day” is a true representation of our building’s fundamental purpose. Our staff takes pride in making Henderson a home by providing a family feeling. I hope you have already received a warm welcome and have had initial questions answered. As your child’s first teacher, your support and partnership with school are an essential component to your child’s success at Henderson. We look forward to partnering with you!
Henderson is a nationally recognized model Professional Learning Community school and has used this model for teacher and school improvement for over 19 years. We have also been recognized for several years by the state of Missouri for our implementation of School-Wide Positive Behavior Supports (SWPBS). In 2020, we received gold status recognition! Henderson was also recognized by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education as being in the top 5% of K-12 schools in MO for two consecutive years with regards to academic achievement of our English Language Learners! We have a lot to celebrate!
We are a building of readers and writers! Be sure that your child is reading 20 minutes a day outside of school. Research shows that a child who reads only 1 minute a day outside of school will learn 8,000 words by the end of 6th grade whereas a student who reads 20 minutes outside of school will learn 1,800,000 words! WOW, that is a big difference! If reading isn’t one of your child’s top priorities, you may need to set up a regular and consistent reading routine at home. It is an expectation that all Henderson students read nightly.
We are so excited for you to begin coming to Henderson! Your parent portal information will be given to you when you register your child. Your child’s ID number is used for their lunch account as well as their library checkout number. As long as your child remains a student in Francis Howell they will have the same student number.
Students will be lifelong learners who are compassionate, supportive, and accepting of others. They will be empowered problem solvers who are prepared for the future and strive for their personal best.

As a District focused on continuous improvement, each of our 23 schools develops a site-based school improvement plan every year. The plan outlines the goals and actions the building plans to take throughout the year to improve various areas of performance.
A pyramid of intervention is a tiered approach to prevention and intervention strategies to support students both academically and behaviorally. The pyramid uses a variety of strategies and techniques to help all students stay on the right track. The foundation of the pyramid offers Tier 1 supports for all students. Tier 2 interventions provide additional support for smaller groups of students who need more targeted help. Tier 3 provides the most intensive supports for individual students when Tier 1 and 2 interventions have been unsuccessful. Our schools review and update their pyramid on a regular basis to ensure new strategies are incorporated and all are aligned with best practice.
The student handbook summarizes District policy and contains general guidelines and information. Translated copies of this Handbook are available. Contact the school office.
